Northern Highlands State Forest

I don't think it's truly summer until my first trip to Northern Highlands State Forest in Oneida county, Wisconsin. It is a quarter of a million acres of all that is good and beautiful about Wisconsin....including a great ice cream shop in the woods that is a treat to bike to (one can't live on natural beauty alone - sometimes you need a cone full of blueberry cheesecake ice cream).

Here's a couple of images from this past weekend....hope you enjoy them!

Upper Michigan Images

I had the opportunity to spend some time over Memorial Day weekend playing around in Upper Michigan, near the Porcupine Mountains and Ottawa National Forest. A beautiful stretch of weather for Memorial Day - usually we experience cold and rain. In general, wild flowers seem to be about two weeks behind "normal," which gave me a great opportunity to photograph some Trilliums which I usually miss during Memorial Day weekend. (Click on the images to see a larger version.)

Hope you enjoy the photos!
